The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Look Ete Ekwe Labs, has vowed to sustain support for genuine efforts to promote educational development and harness the sporting talents of Rivers youths.

Ibas gave the assurance when the leadership of the Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA), led by its President-General, Michael Ibrahim Magaji, visited him at Government House in Port Harcourt on Sunday.

The sports festival was USOSA’s third edition, and it furthered its commitment to promoting public education, nation-building, unity, peace, the country’s ethos, and its values.

The administrator acknowledged sports as a vehicle for fostering an enriched sense of community while contributing to the individual’s holistic development.

He said his administration remains open to partnerships to enhance economic growth through sustainable investments, support sustainable development efforts, and offer youth opportunities to harness their talents.

“As the Administrator of Rivers State, I remain firmly committed to supporting and advancing educational and sports development initiatives.

“I have also noted your requests for interventions in schools here. Let me make it clear that education is one of the sectors that we are giving priority to in our administration.

“We understand these sectors are key pillars in achieving prosperity and a stable society. So, be assured, we will see what we can do to implement some interventions in those schools.

“The objectives of setting up Unity Schools are obvious:
to continue to build unity within the nation, irrespective of tribes, religion or social beliefs.

“So, what USOSA has just demonstrated is a conviction of their belief in our country, Nigeria. To organise these sports, you can also imagine the social and economic impact that they have had on the state.

“They have also assured the world that Rivers State is safe as a territory and part of Nigeria. And so if we Nigerians believe in the unity of this country, I think others will want to follow and emulate such.”

In his speech, the President-General of the Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA), Michael Ibrahim Magaji, acknowledged that Rivers State and they are delighted to have successfully concluded the sports festival.
