The deputy chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in the North West zone, Engr Abba Sule Namatazu, has stated that political parties seeking an alliance with the PRP lack the ideological principles of the late Malam Aminu Kano.

He added that selfish motives drive these parties and their members, and they seek alliances only to harm Nigeria and its democracy.

Namatazu made these remarks at the 23rd Annual Conference organised by the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies in Kano and the 42nd anniversary remembrance of the Democratic Hero, Malam Aminu Kano. The event took place at the Institute’s Mambayya House in Kano.

He further explained that the individuals seeking alliances with the PRP were former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who only acted out of personal interest, a fact well known to Nigerians. He emphasised that such motives do not align with the PRP’s agenda.

“Late Malam Aminu Kano’s democratic philosophy was rooted in democratic humanism. He was a radical opposition leader who advocated for the liberation of the Talakawa (commoners) and fought for women’s empowerment, especially through education and poverty alleviation. This remains the mandate of the PRP,” he said.

He further outlined that the PRP’s mandate is to propel Nigeria forward, alleviating the struggles caused by economic hardship, insecurity, underdeveloped agriculture, poor education, erratic power supply, corruption, and inadequate healthcare services.

“The same individuals who have failed Nigerians are now seeking to join our party, but their agendas are not aligned with ours,” he continued. “The PRP is committed to the ideals of its founder, the late Malam Aminu Kano, who fought for the liberation of the common people, eradication of poverty, and literacy.”

He reiterated the PRP’s commitment to its founding principles, calling on Nigerians to support the party in the 2027 elections. He emphasised that the PRP would not merge with any other party to form a coalition government and would uphold its campaign promises.

Namatazu also urged Nigerians to be politically astute, advising them not to be swayed by token handouts or promises of one-time benefits, as this only perpetuates the ongoing violation of ordinary citizens’ rights.

He commended the Institute for organising the conference to raise awareness about democratic excellence and enhance the nation’s security and economy. He also prayed for the eternal rest of the ordinary people’s hero, the late Malam Aminu Kano.

The event was attended by prominent politicians and dignitaries from various universities and institutions. It provided an opportunity to discuss the controversial proposed tax reform bill, which has sparked widespread debate across Nigeria.

Guest speaker, Prof Kabiru Isa Dandago, an economist from Bayero University, Kano, shared insights on the potentially harmful effects of such policies on the country.

Other notable speakers included Prof. Badawi M. Sani from Bayero University, Sen. Sulaiman Abdulrahman Kawu Samaila, former executive secretary of the National University Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rashid, and the state governor, Engr—Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was represented by his deputy, Comrade Abdulsalam Aminu Gwarzo.

Lastly, Professor Abu Muhammad Fagge, the director of the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies, expressed his gratitude for the successful completion of the event under the leadership of Professor Adamu Abbas.
