The FCT Football Association (FCTA) has expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Otumba Tade Azeez, the former president of the Nigeria Referees Association (NRA).

Alhaji Adam Mouktar Mohammed, chairman of the FCT FA, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the Nigeria Referees Association, the Lagos State Football Association, and Azeez’s immediate family.

Otumba Azeez, who passed away at the age of 63 following a brief illness on Friday, 25 April 2025, was remembered as a leading figure in Nigerian football. Alhaji Mouktar Mohammed articulated the grief felt within the football community, particularly as it comes shortly after the loss of former FIFA referee Bosede Momoh.

“This news is a tremendous shock to all of us in the FCT,” said Alhaji Mouktar. “The passing of a respected individual like Otumba Azeez is not just a loss for football; it is a significant loss for sports as a whole. We mourn with his family, friends, and the broader football community.”

He further remarked on Azeez’s substantial contributions to the sport, emphasising his role as an important stakeholder who worked tirelessly for the advancement of football in Nigeria.

“As we navigate this painful time, we pray that Almighty Allah grants his soul eternal rest and provides his family and the Nigeria football community with the strength to bear this immense loss,” added Mouktar.

Otumba Tade Azeez’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations of football enthusiasts and officials alike, ensuring that his dedication to the sport will not be forgotten.
