Former Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, has commended Nigerian workers for their resilience, commitment, and vital contributions to the country’s development as the nation celebrates Workers’ Day 2025.

In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja, Lawan praised the enduring commitment of the Nigerian workforce, describing them as the “backbone of the economy” whose efforts sustain industries, bolster trade, and promote social justice.

“This year’s theme, ‘Striving for Peace and Stability to Drive Industrialisation, Trade, and Decent Work for Social Justice’, captures the indispensable link between a peaceful society and economic transformation,” the Yobe North lawmaker stated.

He acknowledged the challenges confronting the country, including insecurity and limited economic opportunities, but maintained that the path to prosperity lies in collective resolve and national unity.

“We, as a nation, have faced our share of challenges. Yet, through it all, the Nigerian worker has remained resourceful and productive,” he said. “However, there is a need to create a more enabling environment for businesses to flourish, attract foreign investment, and develop our local industries.”

The former Senate President emphasized that peace and stability are not the responsibility of government alone, urging Nigerians to embrace dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect in their daily interactions.

“Nigeria stands at a crucial moment where peace and stability are not just ideals but necessities for achieving industrialization and shared prosperity,” he noted.

“We must reject violence and extremism in all its forms and build a society where every Nigerian feels safe, secure, and valued,” he said.
