Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has said the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base in Ajia is a reality and would be commissioned by June this year.

Makinde stated this during an on-the-spot assessment of the Nigerian Air Force Base project, expressing satisfaction at the progress rate.

“We are here to check the infrastructure and the level of readiness for the Air Force Base to become operational,” he said.

He promised to dualise the road from Ajia Junction on Ife Road to the Nigerian Air Force Base in Ajia.

The governor, who was conducted round the facility by Air Vice Marshal Kolade Ademuwagun, the Air Officer Commanding, Logistics Command, Nigerian Air Force, Ikeja, and other officers, however, noted that the other road linking the Air Force Base to the Airport Road would be completed as a single carriage.

Addressing journalists during the inspection, Makinde said, “You can see that the Nigerian Air Force Base in Ajia is a reality now. We are here to check the infrastructure and the level of readiness for the Air Force Base to become operational.

“We have taken some far-reaching decisions today. From Ife Road junction to the base will be dualised. We will probably go ahead and kick-start that immediately. From the base to the Airport Road will be a single carriage.”

He said the Nigerian Air Force Base project should be ready for commissioning between the end of May and early June to coincide with the Nigerian Air Force anniversary.

Speaking on when the road will be ready, he said, “I will give them about six months to complete it. Hydraulic structures are done, it is just to complete the stone base and put asphalt on it.”

The governor was accompanied on the inspection by the commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr William Akin-Funmilayo; the senior executive assistant to the governor on General Duties, Chief Bayo Lawal and other government functionaries.
