Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has called on councillors in the 44 local government councils in the State to serve as vital links between the government and their communities, urging them to identify pressing grassroot needs and report them for swift government action.

The governor gave the charge during a high-level engagement with councillors from all 484 wards of the state held at the Government House in Kano on Sunday.

“You are the eyes and ears of this government,” Governor Yusuf said. “Go back to your wards, listen to the people, and bring forward their most urgent needs. Once you do that, we will act.”

The governor’s remarks were conveyed in a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Governor Yusuf revealed that nearly N5 billion has already been earmarked for ward-level projects across the state. The funds, he said, will be used to address urgent local needs such as the renovation of dilapidated schools, unblocking of drainage systems, and other infrastructural challenges that affect day-to-day life in communities.

“This fund is meant to uplift our communities, not for politics or favouritism. Every kobo must be accounted for, and every project must reflect the real needs of the people,” the governor stated.

He stressed that the success of the initiative depends on sincerity, transparency, and dedication at all levels, adding that councillors in the local government councils must resist any pressure to divert resources for personal or political gain.
