Exciting Shell/NNPC Tennis Tourney Underway At Ikoyi Club

The 2025 Shell/NNPC Tennis Tournament, which commenced at Ikoyi Club 1938 last week’s Thursday, is set to gain momentum from today, May 5.

This year’s event features over 80 players competing for glory across various categories, including Men’s singles (A and B divisions), Ladies’ singles, Veterans’ singles, Super Veterans’ singles, and the Team event.

Ehiz Uwague, the Tennis Section Captain of the club, expressed high hopes for the upcoming rounds which kick off today.

“The matches are set to become increasingly intense, and we anticipate standout performances from the players. As the group matches evolve, I foresee even more captivating encounters, with players striving to secure their places in the final rounds,” Uwague stated.

To date, the Shell/NNPC Tennis Tournament has showcased some exhilarating matches, including a thrilling comeback victory for Stephen Ezeagu and a hard-fought win for Uwague.

Spectators can expect a nail-biting atmosphere as matches scheduled between today and Wednesday promise to deliver top-notch competition, given the excellent form displayed by many participants.

In tonight’s fixtures, N. Etomi will face J. Ojo, O. Oluwawenimo will clash with L. Talabi, and E. Adebayo will battle E. Ejehi for a coveted spot in the next round, while Kallada Kienka takes on O. Oti. Additional matches include E. Uwague against A. Farinu, P. Udoetuk versus H. Etomi, and A. Mustafa facing M. Sule. The team event will follow the singles matches later in the day, with the Tennis Section competing against the Badminton Section, while the Swimming and Squash Sections go head-to-head in the Red Group.

Meanwhile, in the Blue Group, the Billiards and Snooker Section will take on the Aerobics Section, and the Table Tennis Section will compete against the Golf Section.

 

The tournament is scheduled to conclude on May 10.
