The North-East Development Commission (NEDC), in collaboration with the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), has launched a large-scale medical and surgical outreach aimed at transforming healthcare access in Bauchi State.

Targeting over 4,500 beneficiaries, the outreach spans four local government areas: Bauchi, Ganjuwa, Warji, and Katagum. It provides a combination of outpatient consultations and surgical procedures across multiple specialties, including psychiatry, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, pediatric surgery, and neurosurgery.

During the launch event in Bauchi, Ali Ameer Muhammad, assistant manager of the NEDC Health Unit, reaffirmed the commission’s dedication to alleviating the healthcare challenges faced by vulnerable communities in the North-East.

“This initiative underscores our commitment to improving lives through strategic healthcare interventions,” he said.

President of the ARD at ATBUTH, Dr. Danboza Adamu, described the outreach as a response to the silent suffering of many residents due to the lack of affordable healthcare.

“We reached out to several organizations for support, and the NEDC was the first to respond positively,” he explained, highlighting the significance of the partnership.
