The Kano State Government has announced a total ban on live political programmes across all media platforms as part of new measures to curb the spread of inflammatory contents and safeguard the state’s cultural and religious values.

Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs in the state, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya announced the ban during the quarterly meeting with media executives.

According to a statement signed by Director of Special Duties at the ministry, Sani Abba Yola, the ban “is not to suppress political opposition but rather to safeguard the sanctity of Kano’s cultural and religious values.”

In addition to the ban, the ministry has now made it mandatory for all guests appearing on media platforms to sign an undertaking to abstain from making defamatory, abusive, or culturally offensive remarks.

Media presenters were also warned against asking provocative questions or making gestures that could provoke such statements.

The Commissioner commended media houses for their cooperation so far, noting a significant reduction in unethical content since previous engagements.

He also highlighted the state’s ongoing sensitisation campaigns for political presenters, media commentators, and Imams, aimed at promoting responsible communication in public discourse.

During the meeting, media executives pledged continued collaboration with the government and shared recommendations for improving broadcast standards and ensuring respectful communication.
