Her comments followed the launch of the Costed National Action Plan on Ending Violence Against Children during the Global Alliance to End Violence Against Children conference in Abuja.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the First Lady Remi Tinubu for their commitment to women, children, and families, assuring that the administration was dedicated to tackling violence against vulnerable groups.

Represented by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, Tinubu expressed optimism that future generations would recognise this moment as a pivotal response to the call for child safety.

The minister highlighted that all forms of violence against children violate their dignity and threaten national security. She noted the vulnerability of boys and girls to issues like child marriage and sexual violence, emphasising that the protection of children is often linked to the safety of women.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim outlined the ministry’s Strategic Roadmap aimed at promoting gender equality, child protection, and inclusive development in line with Nigeria’s long-term goals.

She urged delegates from 14 African countries and Iceland to align national laws with international conventions on children’s rights, stressing the need for consistent enforcement, especially against powerful offenders.

The minister called for an integrated approach to ending violence, advocating for well-resourced and accessible child protection systems, as well as preventive measures that address the root causes of violence like poverty and gender inequality.
