The sole administrator Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), has declared that the security of life and property is the priority of his administration in the state.
Ibas made the declaration yesterday at Eberi, headquarters of Omuma local government area of the state during a stakeholders’ engagement with the people of the area.
The sole administrator, who was represented by the State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, said the meeting was timely to keep him abreast with the welfare and security challenges faced by the various LGAs of the state and to proffer solution to it.
He noted that security is everyone’s business and urged the administrator of Omuma LGA, Ikechi Nwala, to ensure that he held frequent town hall meetings with the law enforcement agents, traditional rulers, political leaders, women groups and youth leaders to ensure that there is total peace and order in the area.
The sole administrator, who charged them to identify projects that are impactful to the LGA that is not functional to enable his administration attend to it, called on the youths and stakeholders to protect government facilities in their LGA.
In his remarks, the administrator of Omuma LGA, Ikechi Nwala, appealed to Ibas to establish more Police posts in the LGA to ensure adequate security of lives and property of its citizens.
Nwala stated that land grabbing, politically motivated arrest of Omuma sons and daughters as well as illegal oil bunkering were major challenges facing the LGA, adding that the illegal activities are mostly perpetrated by intruders from neighbouring Abia State.
