Multi-Party System Not Suitable For Nigeria, Says Ganduje

National chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has described multi-party system as inimical to smooth government operations in the current democratic dispensation in Nigeria.

Opposition leaders in the country recently raised serious concerns over suspected moves by the current APC-led federal government to frustrate opposition parties ahead of the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

For instance, both PDP and LP, the seemingly leading opposition platforms in the country, grapple with lingering unresolved internal leadership crises. Opposing factions within each party emerge and continue to frustrate the operation and workings of the parties.

Also, internal fracas continue to emerge in some chapters of the SDP under former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai. Moves to form a workable coalition among these parties to effectively challenge the APC at the polls in 2027 appear to be far from being actualised.

Speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service monitored by our correspondent in Bauchi yesterday, Ganduje said the APC would warmly accept all opposition parties to melt into its fold to form a united and strong party.

He argued that Nigerians are more inclined to one party system, adding that nobody would deny the popular view of citizens preferring one party system if they so desired.

“Look at China today, it is the leading economy in the world because it’s operating a one party system,” Ganduje said.

The national chairman noted that the APC continued to appeal to members of other opposition parties with many dumping their former parties for it.

“We are about to receive three Kebbi senators from PDP into the APC,” he said.
