Borno Correspondents’ Chapel Elects New Executives

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Borno State Council, has held its triennial congress and election to usher in a new executive team that would steer the affairs of the chapel for the next three years.

The election was held on Saturday at the NUJ Press Centre in Maiduguri, with members of the chapel present to exercise their voting rights in a peaceful and transparent process.

The congress, conducted in an atmosphere of unity and mutual respect, reaffirmed the commitment of members to uphold the values of the union and strengthen the journalism profession in the state.

In the keenly contested position of chairman, Inusa Ndahi of the Vanguard Newspapers emerged victorious with 14 votes, defeating Gbenga Akingbule of the Wall Street Journal, who garnered 12 votes.

For the assistant secretary position, Dogara Bitrus of the Channels Television won with 13 votes, beating Atiku Galadima of the Nigerian Tribune Newspapers who polled 12 votes.

The following emerged unopposed: Hamza Suleiman of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) – vice chairman; Ismail Alfa of the New York Times – secretary; Bilyaminu Yusuf of Radio France International – treasurer; Ahmed Mari of the Champion Newspapers – financial secretary, and Francis Okoye of LEADERSHIP Newspapers – auditor.

In his acceptance speech, the re-elected chairman, Inusa Ndahi, commended the entire members of the chapel for the smooth conduct of the election and called for unity among members in the affairs of the chapel.
