Cholera Outbreak Claims 4 Lives In Plateau

A total of four persons have lost their lives as a result of cholera outbreak in Bokkos local government area of Plateau State while scores others have also been hospitalised.

LEADERSHIP gathered that some affected persons were evacuated to various primary healthcare centres and cottage hospitals in the area for medical attention.

Chairman of Bokkos LGA, Hon. Amalau Samuel confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Monday.

Amalau named the affected communities where the outbreak had been reported to include Hurti Community, Bokkos West and Central as well as Mangol.

He stated that the Primary Health Care Department and the cottage hospital were working together to address the challenge.

According to the chairman, some affected individuals were recuperating in the hospital, while others have been discharged.

“Yes, we have an outbreak of Cholera in some communities in Bokkos but the Primary Health Care Department in collaboration with the cottage hospital are working in synergy to address the challenge.

“So far, we have lost about four persons as a result, and some others are recuperating in the hospital. Some have also been discharged. We have two cases in Hurti community, Bokkos West and Bokkos Central and Mangol. These are the affected places,” the chairman said.

He urged the residents to exercise caution and adhere to global health guidelines which include practicing good hygiene and keeping their environments clean.

“We are calling on the good people of Bokkos LGA to be cautious of the development and adhere to the UN guidelines and health activities.

“They should practice good hygiene like keeping their environment clean, washing of hands constant, washing of vegetables, fruit, drink clean water,” he pleaded.

The chairman further charged the public to report any symptom to the nearest primary healthcare centre or go to referral centre at any cottage hospital in Bokkos.
