The remaining programme also got interim accreditation.

The result of the accreditation exercise carried out in October/November 2024, which has just been released, was contained in a letter dated April 30, 2025, addressed to the vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Wahab Egbewole( SAN), by the executive secretary of the NUC, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu.

In the letter, signed on behalf of Prof. Ribadu, by the NUC acting director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu, the commission explained that while 36 courses were granted full accreditation status, only one, Hausa, was granted interim accreditation.

The Faculty of Management Sciences, Finance, which was presented, was granted full accreditation. The Faculty of Basic Medical Science, Anatomy, the only programme presented, attracted full accreditation, just as Computer Science at the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences was also granted full accreditation.

All 17 academic programmes presented by the Faculty of Education were granted full accreditation, while those of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Chemical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering were fully accredited.

The faculties of environmental sciences, clinical sciences, and pharmaceutical sciences fully accredited each of the programmes presented.

The Faculty of Physical Sciences and Social Sciences accredited three academic programmes, while the Faculty of Social Sciences granted four full accreditations.

The NUC said that of the two courses, Igbo and Hausa, that were presented for accreditation from the Faculty of Arts, the former was granted full accreditation. In contrast, the latter was granted interim accreditation.

Reacting to the development, the vice chancellor, Prof Egbewole, said that the university’s management, staff, and students received the news with excitement and a sense of fulfilment.

In a statement issued on his behalf by the university’s spokesperson, Mr Kunle Akogun, Egbewole said:  “We are happy to be so recognised, we are indeed elated.”

He said the achievement confirmed the university’s management’s consistent and massive investment in human and material resources.

Pointing out that more efforts would be made to justify the recognition, Egbewole thanked the provost, the deans, the heads of Departments and all the faculty members “that have made this possible.”

He said, “We hope that we will continue to do our best to position the University for more recognition.” He added, “We want to assure everybody that the administration will continue to appreciate them.”
