Dangote Cement Restores Electricity To Host Communities, Ending 3-year Blackout

In a significant act of social investment, Dangote Cement’s Ibese plant has donated multi-million naira worth of electrical materials to restore power to 21 communities in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, ending over three years of blackout.

Recognizing the challenges faced by these communities due to prolonged power outages, the management of the Ibese Cement plant collaborated with the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to provide essential materials needed to reconnect the areas to the national grid. This initiative reflects a strong commitment to supporting local development.

Traditional leaders from the affected communities expressed their gratitude to chairman of Dangote Cement Plc, Aliko Dangote for approving over N100 million for the procurement of the necessary electrical items. They underscored the importance of this contribution, encouraging IBEDC to expedite the reconnection process following the donation.

During the handover ceremony, Plant director, Roy Uttam reiterated the company’s dedication to eliminating the blackout and emphasized the importance of protecting the electrical installations once they are in place.

He noted that while providing these materials is typically the responsibility of the IBEDC, Dangote Cement took the initiative in the interest of the communities.

Uttam explained that this intervention was motivated by a genuine concern for the welfare of the people, aiming to alleviate the socio-economic effects of the power outage.

He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainable development and continuous collaboration with local communities, underscoring the importance of harmonious relationships.

Traditional rulers from the affected areas praised the Ibese plant management for delivering on their commitment to procure and donate the materials. The Olu of Imasayi, Oba Lukman Kuoye, highlighted the successful partnerships formed through positive engagement between the plant’s management and various stakeholders.

Gratitude was also expressed by the Aboro of Ibeseland, Oba Rotimi Mulero, who acknowledged that this donation would strengthen the bond between Dangote Cement and the communities.

He spoke of the community’s commitment to protecting the electrical infrastructure once installed and emphasised their resolve against vandalism.

Moreover, representative at the Ogun State House of Assembly, Adegoke Adeyanju, expressed appreciation on behalf of his constituents, assuring that efforts would continue to ensure IBEDC fulfills its role in restoring electricity.
