A presidential aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 general election, Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze, has emerged as the regent of his Abagana community in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State.
The United States-based medical doctor ascended to the revered traditional stool following the demise of the community‘s traditional ruler, His Royal Highness Igwe Patrick Mbamalu Okeke.
Anakwenze was issued a certificate on Wednesday by the Anambra State government through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs.
Anakwenze told newsmen yesterday that if, after the traditional six-month period, he is allowed to reign in the position, he would vie for the community‘s Igweship throne.
The good people of the Abagana community have selected me to take charge of the Abagana Kingdom for a period of six months. And I promise I would effect a massive change in the community, including initiating the younger ones into the Igweship cabinet.
„My administration within the period will prepare a lot of Abagana youths for future leadership. I will delightfully accept to assume rulership as the new traditional ruler of the town, if my people find me worthy to continue my long-time contribution to the development of the community.
„I was called back from my base in the United States of America (USA) three days ago to come and hold the position in the interim for a period of six months to enable the community to conduct a new election for the Igweship slot.
Within the six months, I will focus more on bringing young ones into the cabinet to prepare them for future leadership.
„My major interest, which is why I am still alive, is to make Abagana one of the best communities every Nigerian, irrespective of tribe, ethnicity, and religious affiliation, will love to reside in.”
Dr Anakwenze, who is currently the leader of the Igbo Assembly Worldwide, expressed sadness that Nigeria has remained backwards in virtually all development indices. According to him, this is due to poor leadership and corruption.
He said that even if he eventually became a traditional ruler, he would continue to speak out to contribute to the country‘s campaign for new and credible governance.
