Over 1,200 lawyers will meet in Ilorin, Kwara State, today to discuss artificial intelligence(AI), law, and religion matters.

The conference, organised by the Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN), will be held between Friday and Sunday and will have the theme „Artificial Intelligence (AI), Law, and Religion in Nigeria.”
Dignitaries expected to grace the 16th Annual General Conference of MULAN include the governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and the attorney general of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).

Speaking at a press briefing held at the Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal conference room, Ilorin, MULAN national president, Saidu Muhammed Tudun Wada, represented by the association’s second vice president, Barr. Tijajni Sanda described the conference as a landmark event to interrogate Nigeria’s evolving intersection of artificial intelligence (AI), law, and religion.

He said the conference theme, “Artificial Intelligence, Law and Religion in Nigeria,” is timely and deeply thought-provoking. It reflects the need to navigate emerging technologies within legal ethics, constitutional rights, and religious values.

He said other personalities billed to attend the event include the Chief Judge of Kwara State, Justice Abiodun Adebara, the Grand Khadi of Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal, Justice AbdulLateef Kamaldeen, the director general of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), Prof. Ibrahim Abikan, Prof. Yusuf Ali (SAN), and the vice-chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulWahab Egbewole(SAN).

He added that Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, a former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, is expected to give the keynote speech and delve into the ethical implications and religious dimensions of emerging digital technologies in legal practice and governance.

While acknowledging Barr Kehinde Eleja (SAN), the chairman of the conference planning committee, has supported a hitch-free and colourful event. The MULAN President said the choice of Ilorin as the host city was strategic.

He said Ilorin city, known for its deep-rooted Islamic scholarship and strong legal traditions, represents a confluence of faith and law, making it an ideal setting for such a critical national discourse.

“This conference is not just an annual ritual; it is a platform for redefining legal consciousness among Muslim lawyers and setting new standards of ethical and intellectual engagement in a rapidly evolving digital world,” Sanda added.
