The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has inaugurated its Kubwa District Society in the Federal Capital Territory, appointing Mrs. Ijeoma Ugwunebo as its pioneer chairman.

Speaking at the event in Abuja, ICAN President, Chief Davidson C.S. Alaribe, FCA, congratulated Ugwunebo and her executive team, praising her leadership vision, courage, and commitment to excellence.

“Your passion for the growth of this Institute is truly remarkable. May God Almighty guide and direct you,” Alaribe said.

He noted that ICAN, founded on September 1, 1965, now has over 67,800 members. While some believe the membership should be higher, he emphasized that becoming an ICAN member requires dedication and must be earned.

Alaribe encouraged the new district to foster cooperation, not competition.

“No matter how beautiful a child is, if the mother doesn’t take her to the village square, no one will see her or recommend her to a suitor,” he said, stressing the need for visibility and engagement.

In her acceptance speech, Ugwunebo pledged to grow the district through training, networking, and inclusive leadership.

“We are committed to building friendship, unity, and achieving greatness within the district. This will be a platform for sharing knowledge and creating opportunities for both practicing and aspiring chartered accountants,” she said.

She affirmed that the newly established district would stand strong among others across Nigeria, supported by a diverse and capable executive team from both public and private sectors.
