He described the attacks on humanitarians as unacceptable violations of international laws and fundamental human rights.

Abdul who is a member of the Africa Governance Group under the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), made the remarks during the celebration of World Red Cross Day and the 63rd anniversary of the Tanzanian Red Cross Society in Dodoma, the Tanzanian capital.

The Kwara State – born Abdul addressed a distinguished audience that included President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, humanitarian leaders, volunteers, and stakeholders at the gathering.

“Attacks on humanitarian service providers are unacceptable. We demand that all actors respect international humanitarian laws, cease these attacks, and ensure the safety and security of humanitarian workers who risk their lives daily to serve humanity,” he said.

Speaking on the theme: “On the Side of Humanity,” Abdul underscored the enduring relevance of the Red Cross movement’s founding principles, humanity, impartiality, neutrality, and voluntary service and paid tribute to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

“We honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Their memory continues to inspire us to serve with courage and conviction,” he added.

He also commended the leadership of President Hassan for her efforts in championing humanitarian causes, democratic reforms, and women’s empowerment in Tanzania.

“We certainly need great women like you in our Glow Red and Tiffany’s Circle communities to inspire others into believing that women can do anything and everything, including becoming Presidents of nations,” he said.

Abdul praised the strong collaboration between the Nigerian and Tanzanian Red Cross Societies, emphasising how shared resources, expertise, and partnerships amplified their impact in responding to emergencies and strengthening community resilience across Africa.
