It was observed that the little girl was sent to the Swali market by her mother to meet his uncle, who manages a wooden local boat at the waterside to collect snails from the river.

Unfortunately for the girl who was still a virgin, the uncle had a different agenda. According to a market source, when the girl got to the boat, her uncle forced himself on the girl and deflowered her inside the ship.

The market security later arrested the man after it was reported, and he had confessed to the crime and pleaded for mercy after he was stripped, tied with his hands behind and beaten with a cane.
Narrating the incident, a market woman who first confronted the man, said that she met the young girl on the road and she was crying bitterly and when she asked her why she was crying, she said her mother sent her to the uncle to pick up snail for her but the man raped her.

She said, “I met the girl on the road and she was crying bitterly and when I asked her why she’s crying, she told me that her uncle raped her. She said her mother sent her to her uncle to pick up a snail.

“She even pleaded with the uncle that she’s still a virgin, but the man didn’t listen and still went ahead to defile her. This man is a wicked uncle; he has been doing it to other innocent girls in the area, but this one, he will never escape it; he must face the wrath of the law.”

When this report was filed, the man was handed over to the Bayelsa State Police Command for further investigation.
