A Kano State High Court has sentenced two men, Aliyu Adamu and Mubarak Abdussalam, to death by hanging for the murder of Alhaji Dahiru, a resident of Yankusa, in a case linked to an alleged attempt to obtain the deceased’s land ownership documents.
A third defendant, Sadik Sanusi, was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for his role in the crime.
The Kano State Government had prosecuted the trio on charges of criminal conspiracy, murder and concealing a crime.
In his judgment, Justice Fatima Adamu of Court 18, Miller Road, Kano, ruled that the prosecution, led by Barrister Salisu Muhammad Tahir, had provided sufficient evidence to prove the charges against the defendants.
The court held that Adamu and Abdussalam murdered Dahiru by stabbing him with a knife.
According to the prosecution, the two men acted in concert with Sanusi, who allegedly used his commercial tricycle to convey them to the scene of the crime.
The prosecution further alleged that the defendants set the victim’s body on fire after killing him.
It told the court that the murder was motivated by an attempt to obtain Dahiru’s land ownership documents.
At the conclusion of the trial, the court sentenced Adamu and Abdussalam to death by hanging, while Sanusi was handed a seven-year jail term.
