The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to embrace empathy, understanding, and dialogue as a means to harness the nation’s rich cultural diversity for development and unity.

In a message marking the 2025 World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, commemorated globally on May 21, Mrs. Tinubu underscored the strength embedded in Nigeria’s multi-ethnic and multi-lingual heritage.

“Nigeria, for example, is blessed with over 250 ethnic groups, each speaking a different language,” she stated. “But it is through our dialogue, our interactions, and our mutual respect that we find true identity and unity.”

The First Lady urged citizens to not only celebrate the country’s cultural richness but also to listen with empathy and lead with understanding in their everyday lives.

According to her, the shared humanity that binds people together is far greater than the differences that set them apart.

“There is indeed strength and unity in diversity,” she noted, encouraging all Nigerians to see diversity as a bridge to peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.

Senator Tinubu concluded her message with a hopeful tone: “Let us embrace this journey together and shape a brighter future for Nigeria and the world.”

The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development was proclaimed by the United Nations in 2002 to deepen understanding of the value of cultural diversity and foster global dialogue toward peace and inclusion.
