Speaking on the training, the state commissioner for Basic Education Dr  Lawan Yunusa Danzomo said the training is part of the state government’s effort to reform the state basic education.

He explained that the training is carried out under “Jigawa UNITE Project”, an initiative managed in collaboration with a UK-based firm to dramatically change the statistics of the state’s learning outcomes  to global best practice.

According to him 1,449 teachers and 250 head teachers will participate in an intensive induction focused on effective classroom practices, learner engagement, and the use of digital teaching tools for effective teaching and learning in the school.

“The first phase of the training has been completed in Dutse, where a 10-day Wave 1 training for teachers and school leaders was conducted. While the next waves of training will take place in Gumel and Hadejia zone of the state.

“Teachers quality is key in achieving our educational reform, under JigawaUNITE initiative,  special priority is accorded to upgrading their expertise, and ability to deliver quality knowledge according to global standard and the state government is fully committed to invest whatever it takes for the future of our children,” Dr Danzomo stated.

While shedding more light on the initiative, the official from UK firm implementing the project in collaboration with the state Ministry for Basic Education Mr Olusanya Omojola said,  “Jigawa UNITE” aims to raise teaching standards, improve learning outcomes, and

Modernise classroom instruction for thousands of pupils.

He noted that JigawaUNITE is not a one-time intervention. It is a long-term

investment in the future of the  children and state education system.

“ Under the initiative, teachers are equipped with a tablet preloaded with structured lessons and performance-tracking software, giving them the support needed to deliver stronger, more consistent instruction across the state”.

“JigawaUNITE is powered by a global model already proven in countries such as Rwanda, Kenya, and Liberia, as well as in several Nigerian states. It combines teacher coaching, real-time classroom data, and proven pedagogical methods to deliver measurable improvements in foundational literacy and numeracy”.

Commenting on the initiative the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Jigawa State chapter, Comrade Abdulkadir Yunusa,  said the programme is already rekindling their hope in upgrading their skills and knowledge to engage students and teach them properly.
