Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has declared Babangida Ishaq Abdullahi (Maliya) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the newly elected chairman of Shira local government area, following a by-election conducted yesterday.

Returning officer Kabiru Abba who announced the result also declared Ali A. Tumfafi as the elected deputy chairman.

Governor Bala Mohammed congratulated Hon. Babangida Maliya on what he described as a well-deserved landslide victory.

I urge him to justify this trust by delivering inclusive governance and prioritising grassroots development,” the governor said.

The by-election followed the impeachment of the former chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Beli, and his deputy, Hon. Usman Adamu, by the Shira legislative council on March 3, 2025. Their removal was based on allegations of gross misconduct, financial mismanagement, dereliction of duty and abuse of office.
