The Kwankwasiyya Movement on Sunday stormed the Ogbabede Ward in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi state as over 300 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) officially joined the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

The defection was led by Hon. Husseini Umar Eniji, a prominent political figure and key driver of the Kwankwasiyya ideology in the region.

Political observers viewed the mass defection as a growing momentum for the NNPP in Kogi state, unsettling the APC and SDP strongholds ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development also sparked concerns within the ranks of the affected parties, as their support base appears to be eroding rapidly.

Hon. Eniji, once an influential financial member of the SDP who also contested the Dekina local government chairmanship, has emerged as a pivotal force in the expansion of the Kwankwasiyya movement.

At the event, which drew many women and youth, many embraced the iconic red cap—a symbol of their new political allegiance.

In his address, Eniji reassured the new members of the NNPP’s commitment to equity and fairness, values that form the foundation of the Kwankwasiyya ideology.

He urged them to remain united and focused on building a stronger political future. He added that the defection marked a strategic shift in Dekina’s political landscape and is expected to reverberate across Kogi State in the months leading up to 2027.
