The National Coordinator of the Federal Primary Healthcare Agency in Jigawa State, Mr. Muhammad Muhammad, disclosed this while responding to questions from journalists during an induction training organised for the newly recruited staff.

Mr. Muhammad explained that the initiative is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to ensure accountability, improve financial management, and enhance performance in the selected primary healthcare facilities.

He noted that five years ago, the Federal Government launched a program known as the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF), under which 1% of the federal consolidated revenue is allocated to selected primary healthcare facilities across all political wards in Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.

According to him, the programme aims to expand access to basic primary healthcare services for all Nigerians, regardless of their socioeconomic status.

“The monthly funds allocated to the facilities are primarily intended to enhance the provision of sufficient, quality manpower, drugs, infrastructure, and other necessary medical equipment in the facilities,

“The recruited personnel will be posted to each of the 27 local governments in Jigawa State to track and support improvements in performance and financial management at the facilities to ensure access to effective basic primary healthcare for all,” the Coordinator stated.

He further explained that the technical staff would work hand-in-hand with the Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, a key actor in implementing the BHCPF in the state.
