The Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to safety education. It organised a targeted outreach programme for secondary school students across Plateau State to mark this year’s Children’s Day.

The initiative held in selected secondary schools in Jos is part of the company’s robust Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to promote safety awareness among young Nigerians.

LEADERSHIP reports that the campaign focused on educating students on how to stay safe around electricity and electrical installations.

Speaking to newsmen during the outreach, Saratu Dauda, the company’s acting head of Corporate Communications, emphasised the importance of introducing safety education at the secondary school level.

According to her, JED believes that early electrical safety education is critical in reducing accidents and protecting lives.

“Our goal is to ensure that these students become not only more conscious of hazards associated with electricity but also ambassadors of safety in their schools, homes and communities”.
To reinforce the safety lessons, JED Plc also distributed branded learning materials to the students as tokens of appreciation and practical tools for retaining the key messages.

Also speaking, Alvinmax Yenkwo, Head of Safety at JED Plc, highlighted the importance of safe electricity practices, especially among young people. “Electricity is a powerful and essential resource, but it must be handled with care,” he said.

He pointed out that educating secondary school students early lays the foundation for a safer future. “We want every student to understand that safety starts with awareness and continues with action,” he said.

Alvinmax encouraged students to promptly report any observed electrical hazards to their parents, school authorities, or the nearest JED Plc office.

“We are not just in the business of supplying electricity. We are deeply committed to improving lives, supporting communities, and ensuring the safety of all especially the next generation of leaders,” he added.
