The Lagos State government has arraigned a medical doctor, Dr. Oyeyinka Oyetunde before the state Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja for alleged involuntary manslaughter of a patient.
Oyetunde was docked before Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe on a one-count charge of the offence he allegedly committed on June 16, 2020 at 1 Ajibade Oke Street, in Isolo, Lagos.
The state prosecution alleged that the doctor failed to administer care on a certain Uchenna who is now deceased.
According to the prosecutor, the offence is contrary to Section 229 of the Criminal Law, Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of involuntary manslaughter.
After his plea was taken, the defence counsel, Abayomi Omotunbora urged the court to allow his client to continue to enjoy the terms of the administrative bail granted to him by Chief Magistrate Goke Abayomi of the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court.
Following no objections from the state, the judge granted the request, holding that the defendant is not a flight risk going by his antecedents.
The judge allowed him to continue on the bail, with a condition that he must provide the evidence for which he was granted bail, not later than seven days from Tuesday.
The judge then adjourned the matter to December 19 for commencement of the trial.
