An aspirant for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship in the 2026 FCT Area Council election, Mr. Ishaku Tanko Yamawo, has pledged to run an open-door and people-focused administration if elected.

Mr. Yamawo made this known during his formal declaration of interest to contest for the AMAC chairmanship on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at the declaration ceremony in Abuja yesterday, Yamawo said his aspiration was driven by a desire to bring justice and inclusivity to the long-marginalised residents of AMAC. He vowed to restore public confidence by promoting transparency, accessibility and equitable service delivery.

“My administration, if elected, will operate on the principle of an open-door policy. We will return a sense of belonging to the people of AMAC and ensure their voices are not just heard but respected in governance,” he said.

He urged residents to join his movement to reclaim what he described as “the people’s mandate,” and promised to prioritize empowerment programmes and development initiatives that respond to the needs of the grassroots.

Addressing journalists after the event, Yamawo emphasized that his vision is to run a people-oriented government focused on empowerment and accountability.

“The people of AMAC have been neglected for too long. If given the mandate, I will not take their trust for granted. It’s time to restore hope and dignity to our communities,” he said.

Earlier, the APC chairman of AMAC, Mallam Mukhtar Abubakar, expressed confidence in Yamawo’s candidacy, describing him as a committed party man with the capacity to deliver.
