The Grassroots Mobilisers for Better Nigeria Initiative (GMBNI) has petitioned the Presidency over an alleged abrupt dismissal of 126 constable-cadets of the Nigerian Police College, Kaduna, while undergoing training.

Chairman/Founder of GMBNI, Amb. (DR.) Fatima Mohammed Goni, in a statement issued in Abuja, said petitions have been sent to the National Human Rights Commission, the Public Complaints Commission, office of the Inspector General of Police, the Police Service Commission and the National Assembly, saying the 126 cadets who hailed from Katsina, Kaduna and Kano States, commenced training in April 2025, but were regrettably on May 16, 2025 dismissed without notice.

She, however, explained that 24 out of the dismissed cadets were later reinstated.

She lamented that having been on the verge of completing their training and joining the Nigerian Police Force, their abrupt dismissal not only undermined their aspirations, but also raised questions about the transparency of recruitment processes.

GMBNI, therefore, called on the concerned relevant agencies of government to intervene and further investigate the circumstances surrounding their disengagement and advocate for their immediate reinstatement.

She added that this is also towards restoring confidence in the recruitment and training process of the Nigerian Police Force.

Amb. Goni emphasised that the fear in the minds of many Nigerians was that, after being trained with the relevant weapons, dismissing the cadets who hail from the North-West zone of the country, where most of the security threats in Nigeria were coming from, posed a security risk.

She believed that the perceived excuse given by the Police on the affected cadets being disabled and not of the required height was not tenable as such should have been detected earlier before they commenced their training.
