FG’s Stand On Verdict On Kanu Not Unexpected – Ichita

BY KALU EZIYI, Umuahia

All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) deputy governorship candidate in Abia State, Hon Obinna Ichita has said the stand of the federal government on the Appeal Court verdict on IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu was not unexpected.

Ichita spoke with LEADERSHIP Sunday yesterday in Umuahia when he reacted to the government’s position that the verdict didn’t acquit Kanu of the charges preferred against him.

“To be honest with you, I am not surprised by the government’s position on the matter. But one thing I know is that Kanu’s freedom is eminent by the grace of God. Sooner than later, he will regain his freedom,” he said.

The member for Aba South state constituency maintained that despite the setback, the agitation for the freedom of the leader will continue, “until the day when he will be free from the shackles holding him.”

While speaking to newsmen at Kanu’s Isiama Afaraukwu autonomous community, Umuahia North local government area after the verdict, Ichita had said it spoke volume about the people’s faith in the judiciary.

“With this development, we should start deepening our trust in the system. As I have been insisting before now, political solution remains the best option to this matter, “ the legislator had said.

On his part, the vice president-general of the community, Chief Benjamin Ohaeri, had said the people were excited by the verdict, adding that it was an answer to their prayers and fasting for Kanu’s freedom.

Also, the immediate past president-general of the community, Chief Ikechukwu Ndubueze had noted with delight that “Kanu has regained his freedom at last.”

He had said that the continued detention of the leader had created so much tension and trauma in the people that “at a point, they were disillusioned and disorganised and could not know what to do next.”

Similarly, Pastor Israel Okechukwu of Daily Life in Christ Mission International, returned the glory to God adding that “the prince’s absence created a huge vacuum in the community.”
