Group Tackles Factional Afenifere Over Tinubu’s Scorecard

A pan-Yoruba sociopolitical advocacy group, The Oduduwa Frontiers, has criticised recent comments by a factional Afenifere on President Bola Tinubu’s midterm performance, describing them as misleading and detached from Nigeria’s current realities.

In a press statement signed by its national president, Kolawale Adediji Kazeem, and made available to journalists yesterday, the group expressed disappointment at what it called Afenifere’s “unrealistic expectations” and “uninformed commentary” on the progress of the Tinubu administration.

“The assertion that every human development and sociopolitical index has regressed since the inception of this administration is not only misleading but also reflects a profound misunderstanding of the complexities facing our nation today,” the statement read.

Kazeem emphasized that the challenges Nigeria is currently grappling with were largely inherited from previous administrations and are rooted in years of structural neglect, economic mismanagement, and systemic decay.

“The previous administration left a legacy fraught with economic instability, infrastructural decay, and social unrest. To hold President Tinubu accountable for these long-standing issues barely two years into his tenure is not only unfair but also counterproductive,” he said.

The group insisted that President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda was never marketed as a magic wand, but rather as a long-term blueprint for national reform and recovery. It further pointed out that the government has had to contend with global and domestic headwinds such as post-COVID economic shocks, worsening security threats, and fluctuating international economic trends.

“While results may not yet be visible to all, the groundwork for sustainable development is being laid. We urge all stakeholders to assess this administration with patience and context,” Kazeem added.

Criticising Afenifere’s tone, the Oduduwa Frontiers described the group’s approach as sensationalist and lacking the maturity expected from an organisation historically linked with democratic advocacy.

“It is disheartening to see Afenifere align itself with reactionary voices instead of promoting informed national discourse,” the group said, calling for “constructive criticism and inclusive dialogue” among political actors and citizens alike.

The statement also highlighted some key efforts initiated by the Tinubu administration, including strides in infrastructure development, economic diversification policies, and ongoing security reforms. The group stressed that real transformation takes time and encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful and united.

“This is not a time for division, but for national cohesion. Constructive engagement should replace condemnation. Nigeria’s problems are deep-rooted, and their solutions require collective responsibility and long-term vision,” the statement concluded.
