The match kicked off with high intensity as both teams sought to assert dominance. Portugal took an early lead in the 19th minute when Gonçalo Inácio found the back of the net. However, Spain quickly responded just two minutes later with a goal from Mikel Zubimendi, levelling the score at 1-1.

As the first half progressed, Spain gained the upper hand with a goal from Mikel Oyarzabal in the 45th minute, sending the teams into halftime with a 2-1 lead for the Spaniards.

After the break, Portugal came out strong, and their star forward Cristiano Ronaldo equalized in the 61st minute, igniting hope among the Portuguese supporters. The match intensified as both teams fought valiantly but could not find the decisive goal within the regular time, leading to a 2-2 stalemate at the end of 90 minutes.

Extra time saw both sides unable to break the deadlock, with Portugal’s Nuno Mendes and Spain’s Álex Baena battling fiercely, but the score remained unchanged at 0-0.
