Former managing director of the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC), Chief Charles Orie, has reaffirmed his commitment to good governance in Imo State, as political stakeholders and citizens begin to look toward the 2027 governorship election.

Orie made this known in Owerri during an interactive session with the Imo State Progressives for Change (ISPC) – Diaspora, a global movement comprising Imo indigenes across Africa, Europe, North Africa, Australia, South America, and Asia.

He said the ISPC Diaspora was a forward-thinking coalition committed to championing equitable, effective, and inclusive leadership in Imo State adding that it was beyond politics.

“This is more than politics — it is about building a sustainable and prosperous Imo for future generations. The ISPC Diaspora is a global movement with a clear mission: to ensure that good governance becomes the hallmark of leadership in our state,”he said.

Orie stressed the importance of leveraging global experience and ideas from the diaspora to reposition Imo for transformational growth, promising to continue engaging with progressive stakeholders to realize a shared vision for the state.

He recalled that his tenure as MD/CEO of ISOPADEC was marked by significant achievements in grassroots development, particularly in healthcare, where he oversaw the construction of three ultra-modern hospitals in oil-producing Local Government Areas of Imo State.

In Ohaji-Egbema local government area, a general hospital was commissioned in Umuokanne; the Senator Arthur Nzeribe Memorial General Hospital, with 42-bed capacity in Oguta equipped with state-of-the-art facilities; and the 20-bed Michael Uzodimma Memorial General Hospital in Omuma in the Oru East local government, adding that they were built in partnership with the Imo State Government and local churches, ensuring proper management and staffing.

Other projects he listed include rehabilitation of 20 primary health centers, expanding medical outreach to underserved communities and improving access to healthcare services. A concrete bridge constructed in Nzeribe’s village in Oguta, to enhance transportation and connectivity for local residents, and a brand-new Skill Acquisition Center built in Awommamma, Oru East LGA, providing opportunities for skills development and empowerment.

He said “My overall, leadership at ISOPADEC demonstrated a commitment to developing the oil-producing regions of Imo State and improving the lives of its residents”, adding that with his leadership style if elected as governor in 2027, Imo will be totally transformed.

In his reaction, Diaspora Director General Imo State Progressive for Change 2027 (ISPC), Dr Onuegbu commended Orie for his wisdom, humility, and accessibility, believing in inclusive leadership and open dialogue with citizens, saying his team spirit and strong leadership qualities and dedication to public service and community upliftment have earned him recognition as a potential candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

Onuegbu, explained that Imo State Progressives for Change (ISPC) is a global movement with a clear mission, championing equitable and effective leadership in Imo State.

The ISPC Director General said Orie had a track record of empowering individuals through funding small businesses and providing scholarships, which has enabled many to become successful and independent.
