BREAKING: Tinubu Honours Kudirat Abiola, Yar’Adua, Nwosu With Posthumous National Honours

Tinubu Honours Kudirat Abiola

President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, conferred posthumous National Honours on the trio of late Mrs Kudirat Abiola; late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua and late chairman of the defunct National Electoral Commission (NEC), Prof. Humphrey Nwosu, for their roles in entrenching democracy in Nigeria.

Late Mrs Kudirat Abiola, who was the wife of the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, late Chief MKO Abiola, got CFR, Maj. Gen. Yar’Adua, who was the older brother of former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, got the highest honour of GCFR.

President Tinubu made the announcement during his special address to mark the June 12 Democracy Day at a joint sitting of the National Assembly.

Also recognised for their struggle for the actualisation of June 12 election outcome during the military eras were Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka and General Alani Akinrinade (rtd), who were conferred with the second highest National Honour of GCON.

Also, posthumously honoured were with CFR title were Chief Bola Ige, Balarabe Musa, Afred Rewane, Frank Kokori, Alao Aka-Bashoru, and Fredrick Fasheun.

Others who got the CFR included Polycap Nwite, Senator Ayo Fasanmi, Olatunji Dare, Bayo Onanuga, Dare Babarinsa, Senator Shehu Sani, Kaduna State governor Uba Sani, Femi Falana, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, City People publisher Seye Kehinde, Olawole Osun, Prof. Segun Gbadegesin, Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Prof. Julius Iyorbere, and Senator Abu Ibrahim, among others.

Also on the list of honourees were late Chima Ubani, who was posthumously honoured with OON. Other in the category were Late Journalist Bagauda Kaltho, formee Minister Labaran Maku, Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, and Vanguard Newspaper publisher, Chief Sam Amuka Pemu, for his 90th birthday on June 13.

President Tinubu said a detailed list of the honourees and others will be made public soon.
