Jega Shop Owners Commend Kebbi Govt Over Highway Project, Compensation

Shop owners along the highway project awarded by the Kebbi State government in Jega town under Jega local government area of the state have commended the state government for the project and the payment of compensation.

Chairman of the association, Alhaji Boyi Zaito Jega made the commendation while speaking with journalists in Birnin Kebbi.

He disclosed that the construction of the dual carriageway would reduce the gridlock on the busy road in Jega town.

“Before the project, everyday accidents will be recorded along the busy road, which is caused by heavy trucks and those who are crossing with heavy loads and goods anyhow without control,” Zaito Jega said.

“But if this project is done, all these problems will be solved, and it will become history “, he added.

Chairman of the Compensation Committee, Arc Aliyu Maude, said the government is paying compensation to over 200 owners of structures, amounting to N1.5 billion.

According to him, about 236 verified and documented affected people received cheques for various amounts proportionate to the quantity of their properties.

He noted that the government has given owners of shops and other structures up to two months to evacuate from their stands before the commencement of demolition of all structures along the demarcation.
