Bauchi State chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Nigeria) has announced plans to begin a sensitisation programme aimed at enlightening the public on the newly enacted Child Protection Law 2024.
The chairperson of the chapter, Barr. Hauwa Abubakar, disclosed this during at a forum with journalists in Bauchi yesterday.
She said the primary aim of the initiative was to raise awareness on provisions of the law and the rights it guarantees for children.
“Everyone, from the family to the broader community, needs to understand that this law is designed to safeguard children’s rights, promote healthy development and support vulnerable children,” she stated.
She added that ensuring that children grow up in stable and supportive environments was essential for upholding their rights.
Barr. Hauwa expressed appreciation to the Bauchi State government for its commitment to inclusive governance, particularly for enacting the child protection law.
She also commended the first lady, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed, for her efforts in championing children’s welfare through the Action Committee on Gender-Based Violence.
According to her, every child has the right to education and healthcare, and the need to protect their safety and well-being cannot be overstated.
In celebration of World Day Against Child Labour, FIDA also lauded the Bauchi State government for its proactive stance in passing the law.
It urged more stakeholders and civil society organisations to join hands in echoing provisions of the law and ensuring its effective implementation across the state.
