Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has enjoined corps members deployed to the state to strengthen their positive impact on the lives of Nigerians.

The governor gave the charge yesterday during the swearing-in of the 2025 Batch A Stream II orientation course for corps members at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Wamakko, Wamakko local government area of the state.

He assured the corps members that his administration would prioritise their welfare and security, and urged them to see Sokoto State as a fertile ground to uphold the values of the NYSC scheme.

Represented by the commissioner for youth & sports and social development, Engr. Mustapha Muhammad, Governor Aliyu urged the corps members to steer clear of social vices such as cultism, drug abuse and misconduct.

The governor lauded the NYSC management for its role in shaping and mentoring Nigerian youths to align with government policies and programmes. He highlighted how the scheme had significantly contributed to the nation’s growth and development across various sectors.

In his remarks, the NYSC state coordinator, Yakubu Usman, advised the corps members to embrace discipline and adapt to the regimented camp lifestyle. He explained that the orientation exercise was designed to prepare them physically and mentally for meaningful contributions to national development.

He also encouraged them to take advantage of the skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme, noting its potential to equip them for self-reliance.
