President Bola Tinubu, on Saturday evening, met with some stalwarts of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in what is widely considered as a political realignment move ahead of the 2027 general election.
The PDP members were led to the meeting, which took place at Aso Rock Presidential Villa, by the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike. The President’s guests were solely Wike’s allies and members of the defunct G5 Governors in the last dispensation.
LEADERSHIP recalls that the G5 Governors led by Wike, then the outgoing governor of Rivers State, worked against the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and supported Tinubu, who was then the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the 2023 poll.
After the polls, President Tinubu appointed Wike, a member of the PDP, as Minister of FCT in August, 2023.
Present at the meeting was a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, and two members of the defunct G5 – former governors of Benue and Abia States, Samuel Ortom and Okezie Ikpeazu, respectively.
FCT Minister’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, who disclosed the meeting on his personal Facebook page, however, did not reveal the real reason of the visit to President Tinubu by his principal and his three close political allies.
