In a major victory in the ongoing fight against banditry and rural crime, security forces in Katsina State have neutralised twelve armed bandits and recovered stolen livestock and weapons following a coordinated operation in the Kurfi-Safana local government areas of the state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mua’zu, on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

According to the statement, the security operation was launched in response to an early morning attack on Rahamawa village in the Kuraye District of Charanchi Local Government Area.

The assailants stormed the community around 5:40 AM, leaving a 60-year-old resident, Alhaji Danmalam, critically injured and making away with twenty-two cattle.

Acting swiftly on intelligence reports, a combined team comprising the Police, Army, Community Watch Corps, and local vigilantes pursued the fleeing bandits to Dutsen Falale within the Kurfi-Safana enclave. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the death of twelve suspected bandits.

The security forces also recovered five AK-47 rifles, several rounds of ammunition, and successfully retrieved all twenty-two stolen cattle, restoring them to the affected community.

While hailing the bravery and dedication of the security personnel involved, Dr. Mua’zu expressed deep sorrow over the death of one vigilante member who lost his life in the gun battle.

Additionally, one soldier sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

Sadly, Alhaji Danmalam, the initial victim of the attack, succumbed to his injuries at the Primary Health Care Centre in Charanchi.

“On behalf of His Excellency, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, and the good people of Katsina State, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and pray for Allah’s mercy upon their souls,” the statement read.

The commissioner reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, emphasizing that investigations are ongoing to track down other fleeing suspects and dismantle remaining criminal hideouts.

Residents are urged to support security by providing timely information on suspicious activities.
