Chief Owolabi Salis, a Nigerian lawyer based in the United States, is poised to make history as the first Nigerian to travel beyond the Kármán line into space.

This announcement was made public through a press release by Blue Origin, an American space technology company, which LEADERSHIP obtained.

Blue Origin stated that Salis will be joined on this extraordinary adventure by notable global figures, including Allie Kuehnor, Carl Kuerhnour, Leland Larson, Freddie Rescignor Jr., and Jim Sitkin.

It is worth noting that last year, the distinguished Nigerian citizen, scholar, and author also made headlines as the first Black African to travel to the Arctic and Antarctic within a single season.

The press release quoted Salis as expressing excitement over the prospect of participating in the historic space adventure.

He said, “This is not just an adventure but an adventure of all adventures. Beyond the fun, I look forward to this epic journey with a joyous trepidation to behold the mysteries of the universe in its breathtaking grandeur and immensity.

“It is a means to appreciate the limitless omnipotence of the Supreme Creator of all things; to fear Him and be closer to Him than ever.

“Therefore, I consider this upcoming experience more significant than anything else, as it promises to open a vista of spiritual awakening, making me more sober and nearer to the Soul Maker, the Creator of life,” the lawyer stated.

When asked if he feels great or special about being the first Nigerian slated for such an experience, Salis responded, “I don’t feel special in any way; I only consider myself privileged. People have hailed me with compliments like ‘African Ambassador’ and ‘Nigerian Ambassador.’ If they see it in that light, that’s good.”

Blue Origin also stated that Salis is an attorney and financial consultant. He is the author of ‘Equitocracy’, which presents a vision for democracy that prioritises diverse groups.
