The pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing council of the Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal College of Education Kano, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, has called for calm among members of the institution amid controversy over the tenure elongation of the vice chancellor of the institution.

He also warned that the council would not tolerate any action capable of jeopardising the relative peace being enjoyed in the institution.

This was contained in a communique signed by Sani Danladi, the registrar to the council, issued at the end of the 4th meeting of the University Governing Council held recently at the University Council Chamber.

LEADERSHIP had reported that lecturers at the university, under the platform of the Academic Staff Union (ASU), recently demanded the removal of the chairman of the Governing Council and vowed to resist any move to appoint a new VC without due process.

Prof. Ahmed, however, noted that the federal government has extended the tenure of the acting vice chancellor by one month, which was ratified by the council.

Therefore, he sought the staff members’ support in ensuring the successful transition of the Institution into a full-fledged University with the highest possible level of development.

The chairman also briefed members on the progress of the transition process of the university, saying, it has so far conducted NUC Resource Verification/Visitation, addressed the issue of staff right-placement and enabling law among others.

In his address, the acting VC, Dr Sadi Mohammed Sirajo, commended the council and appreciated their commitment towards the successful transition of the institution.

He further emphasised that the Institution has been peaceful, and normal academic and social activities have been going on satisfactorily.
