The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto and president general of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubukar III, has called for fervent prayers for security and peace, saying that the new wave of insecurity was seemingly defying all tactics of combating it.

JNI secretary-general Prof. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, in a statement to mark the beginning of the new Hijrah calendar—Al-Muharram, 1447AH—said the Sultan also called on world leaders to de-escalate the surge in the Iran—Israel war and all other combats for the sake of world stability, peace, economic propensity, and security.

Sultan, however, prayed to Allah to make the New Hijri Year a source of abundant blessings and prosperity to the Nigerian Muslims in particular and the entire Muslim Ummah the world over.
The statement reads in parts, “Sequel to the declaration by the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, JNI that today Thursday, 26th June, 2025, marks in Nigeria the beginning of the new Hijrah calendar – Al-Muharram, 1447AH, the JNI National Headquarters felicitates with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah, on the inception of the new Islamic year.

“He also calls on the Nigerian Muslims to rededicate themselves to Allah, the Most High and remain God-fearing, committed to the worship of Allah, be law-abiding at all times, remain peaceful, steadfast in all lawful (Halal) undertakings and industrious. Muslims are also reminded not to start up the New Year with unnecessary celebrations repugnant to Islamic tenets.”

The statement added, “Likewise, as usual, the Sultan calls for fervent prayers for the betterment of our dear country, the entrenchment of peace and security, particularly that the new wave of insecurity is seemingly defying all tactics of combating it. We implore Allah, the Oft-Forgiving and The Most Merciful to provide merciful intervention to the Muslim refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) throughout the world, restore peace and security to the whole world and Nigeria in particular and ease the plights of the Nigerian citizenry – economically, socially and politically,” the statement read.
