The United Nations International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) has signed a bilateral inter-institutional diplomatic cooperation agreement with the International Organisation for Economic Development (IOED).

The agreement, which formalises diplomatic collaboration between both bodies, grants UNIPGC enhanced institutional authority and recognition under public international law. It also paves the way for the establishment of official diplomatic representations in countries where IOED maintains formal diplomatic relations.

The IOED is an intergovernmental organisation with signed headquarters agreements in several sovereign states. Through this partnership, UNIPGC now gains the capacity to enter into diplomatic agreements independently, enjoy extraterritorial jurisdiction, and function as an internationally recognized body with full legal personality.

With this recognition, UNIPGC can now engage with countries to establish headquarters agreements, request diplomatic representation, and enjoy the privileges and immunities customarily granted under international diplomatic conventions.

Global President of UNIPGC, Amb. Jonathan Ojadah, has been appointed as the IOED special envoy to the African Union (AU), a development expected to deepen institutional ties between African nations and both organisations.

In line with its status, the IOED also possesses full diplomatic immunity and privileges, including active and passive legation rights. It operates with complete extraterritorial authority and is empowered to produce official diplomatic documents such as diplomatic passports, biometric identity cards, secure police credentials, and other sensitive materials critical to national and institutional security.

This cooperation further aligns with IOED’s global mandate and fulfills its 34th mission entrusted by the United Nations, underscoring its role in advancing multilateral diplomatic frameworks and institutional governance worldwide.
