Participants of a retreat for local government executives have been advised to ensure promotion of ethics, accountability and transparency as the hallmarks of good governance at the grassroots.
The call is contained in a communique issued in Jos after the retreat yesterday.
The communique which was read to newsmen by the state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Hon. Ephraim Gar, urged government at all levels to set clear visions and outline goals and implementation strategies, stressing that new administration at the local level should work to institutionalise these values to ensure they outlast any particular leadership.
The retreat was organised by the Plateau State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Participants also agreed on the use of global best practices such as the digitalization of public services and operations (i.e data collection and record keeping).
According to the communique, leaders must pursue the good of the majority and strive to earn the confidence and trust of the people and recommended participatory based budgeting in all LGAs in order to carry the communities along.
