The Presidency has debunked rumours circulating on social media suggesting the removal of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
In a statement late yesterday, the special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the reports as false and misleading, affirming that Senator Akume remained the SGF.
“There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement said.
Onanuga clarified that President Bola Tinubu, who is currently on an official visit to Saint Lucia, had not made any new appointments.
He further described the viral information about Akume’s purported replacement as the handiwork of mischief makers seeking to sow confusion and instability within the administration.
He urged the public to disregard what he called “fake news.”
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu arrived in Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia, yesterday at 5.30 p.m. local time, marking the first leg of his two-nation trip to the Caribbean and South America.
Upon arrival at Hewanorra International Airport, President Tinubu was accorded full military honours and received by the Governor-General of Saint Lucia, His Excellency Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles, and Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre.
According to a statement by Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will kick off the state visit today by paying courtesy visits to the Governor-General and Prime Minister Philip Pierre.
