In a bid to promote youth inclusion through sports, the Kavod Relief Initiative has launched a unique one-day outreach program titled “Goals for Good”—a community-based initiative that uses football as a platform to reach, inspire, and empower adolescent boys in the FCT.
The event brought together youth teams, families, and community stakeholders to raise awareness about issues affecting adolescents and introduce Kavod Relief’s strategic commitment to protection, education, health, and adolescent rights and governance in Nigeria.
The outreach also marked a surprise birthday celebration for the founder of Kavod Relief—a man whose deep passion for impact, purpose-driven living, and uplifting young people gave birth to this vision.
Speaking at the event, the founder and Chief Servant of Kavod Relief, Mr. Ransomed Kelechi Chibueze said: “Kavod Relief was established from a place of service. Having worked in the sector for over a decade, I have witnessed firsthand how adolescents are often overlooked or treated as an afterthought. This experience underscores the importance of ensuring their inclusion. Kavod Relief is a youth development NGO based in Abuja that works to ensure that every adolescent in Nigeria is protected, educated, empowered, and given a platform to thrive.
Our mission is to drive transformative change in how the world treats adolescents by delivering innovative, high-impact programs and advocating for their rights.”
He highlighted the foundation’s five key program pillars: Protection and safeguarding, Education, Skill building and learning, adolescent health and well-being, gender and social inclusion, and adolescent Rights and governance.
Ransomed also emphasised the need to decolonise aid and the role of sports in empowering youth and helping them become champions, not just in athletics, but in life. It also promotes peace and unity in communities.”
Also speaking at the event, Angela Ejeme, founder of Oakbridge Foundation, said, “We are honoured to be here today. The pupils were excited to participate in this charity sports match.”
“It was challenging, but they gave it their best. It was truly exciting to watch them play.” She said.
She explained that two teams participated: ten pupils from Oakbridge Foundation played against a team called Sweetheart Life FC.
The event was held in honour of Mr. Ransomed Chibueze, founder of the Kavod Relief Initiative, as part of his birthday celebration. But beyond celebrating the founder, it was also an opportunity to support other charities, namely Oakbridge Foundation and Sweetheart Life FC.
Oakbridge Foundation offers free education to out-of-school children, while Sweetheart Life FC provides education and football training to underserved youth.
At the end of the event, both teams were awarded prizes: Oakbridge Foundation received ₦200,000, and Sweetheart Life FC, as winners of the match, received ₦300,000
“It was a truly exciting privilege—not just for the children to express their skills, but to come together for a cause that aims to change the world around them. It’s always inspiring to see people working together to achieve a meaningful purpose,” Ejeme concluded.
