A groundbreaking partnership aimed at transforming digital learning access for Nigerian students has been unveiled in Abuja.

At a press conference to unveil the initiative, led by OMobile World in collaboration with Globacom, the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Industrial Awakening, First City Monument Bank (FCMB), and Maistrade, said 5 million SabiHub-branded SIM cards will be deployed to schools nationwide.

The SIM cards will offer students affordable and secure digital access, enabling them to connect to educational content without the risk of exposure to harmful online materials.

Glo’s extensive network infrastructure and OMobile’s tech-driven learning platform, SabiHub, underpin the initiative.

At the event, David Ogunbanjo, CEO of OMobile World, described the initiative as “a bold step into the future” for Nigerian education. “This isn’t just about SIM cards. It’s about what they represent: inclusion, equity, and a future where no child is left behind simply because they lack access,” Ogunbanjo stated.
He emphasised the project’s collaborative spirit:

“Digital transformation is never a one-man job. It’s a movement. And today, I invite every stakeholder present to join us in ensuring that every home, every classroom, and every child has a real shot at digital inclusion.”

Globacom, represented by its Enterprise Divisional Head for Abuja, Mr. Julian Oun, reiterated its commitment to supporting the initiative with robust infrastructure and a vast subscriber base. “GLO is Indigenous, GLO is Nigerian, GLO has infrastructure… We have everything it takes to make this something the world will come and learn from,” he affirmed.

Also speaking at the event, Mukhtar Aliyu, a First City Monument Bank (FCMB) representative, said the bank’s involvement was driven by its passion for agri-education, child empowerment, and women’s access to finance in rural areas. “The initiative is quite laudable and the entire executive management of FCMB has decided that we should deploy all our platforms to support this great initiative,” he remarked.

Chief Mrs Rukiyat Agboola, President of NAPPS (FCT Chapter), highlighted the educational safeguards the initiative offers. “There will be restricted SIM cards for Nigerian children…without fear of going to toxic sites like pornography or financial fraud,” she said. She also pointed to the anticipated arrival of the All Mobile Tablets, which will complement the SIMs by boosting access to innovation in classrooms.

The SabiHub platform, central to the initiative, is expected to deliver curated educational content, interactive tools, and digital learning opportunities to millions of students nationwide, further supporting Nigeria’s push toward educational equity and digital literacy. With this initiative, the collaborating organisations signal a shared commitment to using technology to bridge academic gaps, especially in underserved communities.
