He urged the state’s parliamentarians to do more in propagating the sustainability of democratic governance.

The Speaker urged the Clerk, Mr Lekan Onafeko, to send a congratulatory message to the Senate President,Mr Godswill Akpabio; the Speaker House of Representatives,  Tajudeen Abass; senators and other members of the National Assembly for their contributions to nation building.

Earlier, the prime mover of the motion, the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Adedamola Kasunmu, said the day was recognised globally to celebrate parliaments for their role in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting accountability.

Kasunmu stressed the importance of building inclusive, transparent and responsive democratic structures.

He said there was the  need for increased public engagement in parliamentary processes and promotion of  civic education to rebuild trust between citizens and leaders.

In his contribution, Oladipo Ajomale (Oshodi-Isolo II) ,noted that the World Parliamentary Day was not being given the right attention  and suggested that future celebrations be formally marked within the House to create greater awareness.

He appreciated  Obasa for his dedication to legislative duties  and acknowledged his vast experience as a parliamentarian.

On his part, Desmond Elliott (Surulere I) applauded the founding fathers of Nigeria’s legislature.

Elliot called for their proper  recognition and celebration.

The lawmaker also  urged the Conference of Speakers of Legislatures of Nigeria to enhance inter-regional engagement and cooperation. (NAN)
